Pharmacy Undergraduate Summer Placement – Boston

Must be studying Pharmacy at university to be eligible for consideration.

THIS PLACEMENT IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM JUNE TO SEPTEMBER.

PLACEMENT DETAILS:
During the placement the undergraduate pharmacy student will be provided with the opportunity to see the responsibilities of the hospital pharmacy team enabling them to gain an overview of the work of the pharmacy team and their role in patient care. They will shadow both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the ward environment, observing medicines reconciliation on admission and discharge, patient counselling and the provision of pharmaceutical care advice to other healthcare professionals. They will observe dispensing activities in the dispensary, including controlled drug dispensing and dispensing for discharge and will observe specialist pharmacist activities.

During the placement the students will be provided with the opportunity to see the responsibilities of the hospital pharmacy team enabling them to gain an overview of the work of the pharmacy team and their role in patient care.

They will shadow both pharmacist and pharmacy technicians in the ward environment, observing medicines reconciliation on admission and discharge, patient counselling and the provision of pharmaceutical care advice to other healthcare professionals. They will observe dispensing activities in the dispensary including controlled drug dispensing and dispensing for discharge. They will spend time observing the procurement process including booking in and receiving of goods and gain an understanding of the ordering process.

There will be the opportunity to observe other aspects of the pharmacy team’s work such as medicines information and aseptic services. The students may also have the opportunity to observe specialist pharmacy professionals such as the clinical trials team, home care team and observe the manufacture of chemotherapy in a sterile production unit.
